UNC - Student Pharmacists' Virtual Training for Long Acting Injectables

Global Objectives:

  • Describe the role of the pharmacist in administering LAIs to optimize the treatment of patients with behavioral health conditions and other comorbidities.
  • Outline the common dosages, mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics, adverse events, drug interactions, and warnings/precautions and counseling recommendations for long acting injectables
  • Identify the statutory and rule requirements for pharmacists to legally administer long acting injectables.
  • Explain appropriate techniques associated with gluteal administration of long acting injectables.  
  • Examine physical space requirements and other considerations for administering long acting injectables.  
  • Recognize the impact psychosocial factors have on patients with mental health disorders.
